ONLINE TRAUMA AND NERVOUS SYSTEM THERAPY

Everyone sees how strong you are. No one sees what it costs.

Trauma-informed online therapy for the dependable one whose body has been in survival mode for years. We work with your nervous system, your relationships and, if you choose, your faith.

WHO THIS IS FOR

You keep the family running, answer every call and pray for everyone. Somewhere along the way, you stopped being on your own list.

You’re praised for being strong. Inside, your chest is tight, your sleep is light and rest feels like something you have to earn.

It isn’t laziness and it isn’t ingratitude. Your body learned early that being needed was the safest place to stand, and it’s still doing that job. In therapy we show it, slowly, that it can stand down.

THE WORK

Your symptoms are not the whole story

Light through a stone arch falling across a dark wall

01    The body that won’t switch off

The racing mind at 2am. The jaw you didn’t know you were clenching. The numbness that arrives right when you need to feel something. That’s your nervous system stuck on high alert, and it’s something we can work with directly.

Trauma and the nervous system

02    The patterns you learned to survive

Saying yes when everything in you means no. Feeling guilty for resting. Choosing people who need you over people who see you. These patterns made sense once. Together we trace where they began and what they cost you now.

Attachment, family and relationships

03    The burnout behind the achievement

You can lead the meeting, host the family and still not remember the last time you felt like yourself. We look honestly at what keeps you running on empty and what it would take to finally put some of it down.

Burnout and overwhelm

We also make room for grief, life transitions, family conflict, people-pleasing, boundaries, identity and self-worth.

FAITH AND CULTURE, WHEN YOU CHOOSE

Your exhaustion is not a lack of ṣabr.

Maybe you've been told to just make more duʿa. Maybe you've quietly wondered whether your anxiety means your īmān is weak. Here, your pain is taken seriously and your dīn is respected.

Your relationship with Allah, your family and your culture can be part of the work whenever you want them to be, and they're never assumed.

I'm a psychotherapist, not a scholar, so questions of fiqh stay with your scholars. Clients of every faith, and of none, are equally welcome.

MEET SAMIRA

Samira Alam, RP

I know what it’s like to sit in a therapist’s office and leave half of yourself outside the door. My own therapy helped, and it also showed me how rarely Allah was part of the conversation.

So I built the practice I wish I’d found, one where you can talk about Allah, your family and your body without explaining yourself first. Before private practice, I spent more than nine years in community work with women and newcomers to Canada. That work still shapes how I listen.

GETTING STARTED

Beginning is simpler than it feels

01

Choose how to begin

Please book a 50-minute session through the booking system, or start with a 10-minute consultation to ask your questions first. Either is a good place to start.

02

The first conversation

There's no script and nothing to prepare. You share what feels okay to share, and we decide together where to start.

03

Finding your rhythm

Most people begin weekly. As things shift, we adjust the pace together, so it fits your life instead of adding to the pressure.

Individual Psychotherapy, 50 minutes    $325 CAD

Initial Consultation, 10 minutes    Credited toward your first session    $50 CAD

Professional Consulting    By arrangement    $325 CAD

Public health plans usually don't cover psychotherapy, but many extended health and workplace benefit plans include Registered Psychotherapists, so it's worth checking your plan first. Please give 48 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule.

QUESTIONS

The questions you might be too polite to ask

Still wondering about something? Email info@alampsychotherapy.com or book the 10-minute consultation and ask me directly.

Do I need to be Muslim to work with you?

No. Clients come from many faiths and from none. Faith is only part of our work if you want it to be, and you can change your mind at any point.

Can you answer religious questions?

I'm a psychotherapist, not a scholar, so I don't give rulings or fatwas. We can explore how a question is affecting you emotionally, and I'll encourage you to take the fiqh itself to someone qualified.

What happens in the 10-minute consultation?

It's a short call to ask questions, hear how I work and get a sense of fit. The fee is $50 CAD. It's non-refundable and credited toward your first session if you continue.

Will my insurance cover therapy?

Public health plans usually don't cover psychotherapy, but many extended health and workplace benefit plans include Registered Psychotherapists. Coverage varies, so please check your plan, including whether it asks for a referral. You don't need one to book with me.

How long are sessions, and how often do we meet?

Sessions are 50 minutes. Weekly works well for many people at first, and we revisit the rhythm together as things change.

How do online sessions work?

We meet on a secure video platform, so you can join from wherever you feel most at ease. A private space, headphones and a steady connection help. If privacy at home is difficult, tell me and we'll think it through together.

How do payment and cancellations work?

E-transfer, Visa, Mastercard and AMEX are accepted. Please give 48 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. Later changes and missed sessions are charged the full fee.

Do you work with couples?

I work with individuals. Marriage, family and other relationships often come up, and we can work on them within your own sessions.

Is what I share confidential?

Yes, within limits set by law, such as a serious risk of harm. We'll go through those limits and how your information is kept before we begin, and you can ask about privacy at any time.

What approaches do you use?

My approach is client-centred and integrative. Depending on what you need, we may draw on Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), attachment-based and somatic work, IFS-informed work, CBT, mindfulness and solution-focused therapy. We use what fits you instead of following one model.

Do you offer crisis support?

No. If you're in immediate danger, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department. If you're thinking about suicide or worried about someone, you can call or text 988, the Suicide Crisis Helpline, any time.

You’ve held it together long enough.

You don’t need the perfect words or a crisis to begin. When you’re ready, please book a session or a 10-minute consultation through the booking system.
